Your Katy Trail Adventure

Routes, stops, places to stay, what to pack and what not to miss.

Thinking about riding the Katy Trail in Missouri someday?

I recently finished my own Katy Trail adventure, and found myself bouncing between maps, websites, Facebook groups, hotel listings, guide books and more... trying to answer some pretty basic questions.

How many miles should we ride each day? Where should we stay? Which towns are worth spending time in? Where can we actually find food and water? And what is the historical significance of each town?

So I’m putting everything I learned into one practical trip planner.

I'm working on The Katy Trail Adventure Guide right now. Inside, I’ll share things like:

  • Suggested routes and daily mileage options
  • Towns and trail stops worth building into your trip
  • Places to stay, eat and grab a celebratory drink
  • What I packed for bike packing, what I actually used and what I’d do differently
  • Things to know before you start riding
  • Interesting places, stories and side trips along the route
  • My favorite moments and stops from the trip
  • The little logistical details that can make a big difference
  • And the things I absolutely would not want you to miss

This won’t be a mile-by-mile encyclopedia of the Katy Trail. There are already excellent resources for that.

Think of this instead as the guide from a friend who just rode it and came home with a Notes app full of “tell people THIS” observations.

Hi, I’m Kim

I’m a Kansas City-based adventurer, storyteller and enthusiastic collector of experiences. I run, bike, kayak, travel and explore, usually with more curiosity than speed.

I love the kind of trips that give you a reason to get outside, wander through small towns, learn a few good stories, eat something memorable and come home with a camera roll full of moments you didn’t plan.

That’s exactly what drew me to the Katy Trail.

I’m not a professional cyclist, and I’m definitely not setting any speed records. I’m the person who wants to know where we’re stopping for lunch, what weird bit of history happened in the next town and whether that little detour is actually worth taking.

I'm creating this planner to share what I learned from riding the trail and to make planning your own Katy adventure a little easier, a lot less overwhelming and hopefully even more fun.

Let me help you explore!

Whether you’re dreaming about riding the entire trail, planning a shorter section, organizing a girls’ trip or simply wondering whether a multi-day bike adventure is something you could actually do, I want this planner to make the whole thing feel a lot more approachable.
