Stop Talking Yourself Out of the Life You Want.
Â
You have ideas.
Things you've always wanted to try. Places you'd love to go. Experiences you secretly imagine having. Maybe even an entirely different version of your life that occasionally pops into your head when you're driving, walking the dog, or staring out the window.
And then your sensible side takes over.
That's not practical.
What if it doesn't work out?
I'm too old to start something like that.
I should probably focus on more important things.
Maybe someday.
And just like that, another interesting possibility gets filed away under Things I'll Do "someday." But what if you stopped automatically talking yourself out of the things that excite you? What if you gave your adventurous side a little more say in what happens next?
Welcome to The Permission Shift.
YOU'VE BEEN THE RESPONSIBLE ONE LONG ENOUGH.
You've spent years showing up.
For your family. Your career. Your relationships. Your responsibilities.
You've made the practical decisions. You've considered everyone else's needs. You've figured out how to make things work. And you've probably gotten pretty good at it.
But over time, you may have gotten so accustomed to doing what was expected that you stopped asking what you actually wanted.
Or maybe you know exactly what you want. You just keep finding "perfectly reasonable" explanations for why you shouldn't pursue it.
What if some of the rules you're following aren't rules at all?
What if they're expectations you absorbed years ago, assumptions you've never questioned, or stories you've repeated so often that they feel like facts?
- You can't travel alone.
- You shouldn't spend money on yourself.
- You need to be good at something before you try it.
- It's too late to change careers.
- You're too old to start over.
- You should be grateful for the life you already have.
Who decided all that? And more importantly, do you still agree?
The Permission Shift is your invitation to start making those decisions for yourself.
Â
Hi, I’m Kim Peek.
Â
I’m a Kansas City-based adventurer, storyteller and enthusiastic collector of experiences. I run, bike, kayak, travel and explore, usually with more curiosity than speed.
I love the kind of adventures that give me a reason to get outside, wander through small towns, learn a few good stories, eat something memorable and come home with a camera roll full of moments I didn’t plan.
After breast cancer, the end of a 32-year marriage, and an empty nest, I wondered: what do I really want?Â
Sunset paddle boarding eventually led me to kayak 340 miles down the Missouri River, ride my bike across four states, and to camp, hike  and experience adventures that would have never been on my radar.
Saying YES to new hobbies brought friendships I couldn’t have planned. I’ve built a life with adventures, meaningful work, and stories I’m still slightly surprised belong to me.
I created The Permission Shift to help you question the old rules, take the part you almost didn’t say seriously, and give something you want a real next move.Â
The trip. The career idea. The class you keep checking but never register for.
You’re allowed to want it before you know exactly how to make it happen. Together, we can work on the how.
IMAGINE WHAT COULD CHANGE IN SIX WEEKS
Â
Instead of automatically saying no...
You get curious about what might happen if you said yes.
Â
Instead of waiting until you feel confident...
You start collecting evidence that you can handle unfamiliar situations, learn new things, and figure things out along the way.
Â
Instead of dismissing your ideas as unrealistic...
You learn to explore them, experiment with them, and give the interesting ones a real chance.
Â
Instead of worrying so much about what other people think...
You get clearer about whose opinions deserve a vote in your decisions.
Â
Instead of imagining a more interesting life someday...
You start putting actual experiences, opportunities, and adventures on your calendar.
Â
Instead of wondering whether you're capable of more...
You begin discovering what happens when you give yourself the opportunity to find out.
Â
Six weeks from now, you could have more than a new perspective.
You could have a reservation made, a conversation started, an application submitted, a new skill underway, a trip on the calendar, or the first real steps toward something you've wanted for years.
Â
I'm Ready for a Permission Shift!YOUR SIX-WEEK PERMISSION SHIFT
Sometimes you hear yourself finally say what you want and realize how long you’ve been brushing it aside.
Â
Inside The Permission Shift, we give those desires some attention. We question the rules around them, work with the real constraints, and begin making room for them in everyday life.
You’re allowed to take your own wishes seriously.
Â
WEEK 1: PERMISSION TO WANT
What do you actually want?
Before you can create a different life, you have to give yourself permission to imagine one. This week, we'll look at the desires you've minimized, the dreams you've postponed, and the things you've stopped asking for.
Â
WEEK 2: PERMISSION TO QUESTION
Who made the rules you're living by?
We all carry assumptions about what we're supposed to do, how we're supposed to behave, and what's appropriate at different stages of life. Some of those expectations are useful. Others limit our choices. This week, you'll identify the rules that have been making decisions for you.
Â
WEEK 3: PERMISSION TO IMAGINE
Give your imagination another assignment.
Your imagination is powerful. Unfortunately, it's also very good at inventing reasons things won't work.
- You imagine the rejection.
- The embarrassment.
- The money you'll waste.
- The awkward conversation.
- The possibility that you'll try something new and discover you're terrible at it.
But what if you started giving equal attention to what could go right? This week, we'll explore visualization, mental rehearsal, and the way our expectations influence what we notice and how we behave.
Â
WEEK 4: PERMISSION TO BEGIN
You don't have to feel ready to get started.
Eventually, you have to stop thinking about the thing and actually do something.
- Send the message.
- Sign up for the class.
- Book the trip.
- Pitch the idea.
- Walk into the room where you don't know anyone.
This week is about building self-trust through action.
Â
WEEK 5: PERMISSION TO BE SEEN
Stop making yourself smaller to keep everyone comfortable.
Sometimes the hardest part of pursuing what you want isn't the activity itself. It's letting other people know you want it.
- What if they think you're being selfish?
- What if they don't understand?
- What if you try something ambitious and fail publicly?
- What if you succeed and your life starts changing?
This week, we'll explore the expectations we place on ourselves, our fear of judgment, and the habits that keep us from asking for what we want.
Â
WEEK 6: PERMISSION TO WANT MORE
One YES can change what happens next.
Here's something wonderful about trying new things. You rarely know exactly where they'll lead.
- A beginner class becomes a new hobby.
- A hobby introduces you to new friends.
- A friendship leads to an invitation.
- An invitation becomes an adventure you never would have imagined a year earlier.
- That's how a life begins expanding.
This week, we'll look at what you've discovered, the evidence you've collected, and the choices you want to continue making.
Â
YOU WON'T JUST LEARN ABOUT CHANGE. YOU'LL PRACTICE IT.
Every week includes opportunities to put what you're learning into action, using tools and frameworks Kim created for The YES Life.
Â
THIS IS FOR YOU IF...
- You've spent years taking care of responsibilities and you're ready to make more room for what you want.
- You have dreams, ideas, and interests that keep getting pushed aside by practical considerations.
- You're navigating a new chapter of life and want to discover what else might be possible.
- You're tired of overthinking decisions and talking yourself out of opportunities.
- You want more experiences, friendships, adventures, or personal growth, but you're not sure where to begin.
- You have a good life in many ways, yet you can't shake the feeling that there's more you'd love to experience.
- Or maybe you're ready to become a little more adventurous, ambitious, curious, and willing to surprise yourself.
You don't need a dramatic life crisis to participate. You don't have to quit your job, leave your relationship, or move across the country. You can love the life you've built and still want to add something wonderful to it.
The Permission Shift is about giving yourself a say in what happens next.

YOUR LIFE IS STILL FULL OF POSSIBILITIES.

You don't need permission from anyone else to explore them. You can start by giving it to yourself.
